High-voltage motor-pump unit

High-tech system for dynamics and performance

Based on the findings of the first generation of the motor-pump unit (MPE), a solution was developed that has been optimized in terms of installation space and performance and is high-voltage capable. The new evolutionary stage enables smart driving dynamics control for each wheel, which can compensate for any rolling, pitching and lifting movements.

Thanks to the technical optimizations compared to the previous generation, the high-voltage MPE, which is supplied directly from the HV on-board electrical system, impresses with the following aspects:

  • 40 % less mass
  • 25 % smaller diameter
  • 26 % shorter
  • Up to 60 % more hydraulic power
  • Up to 35 % more electrical power
  • 60 % shorter response time of the MPE

The significant reduction in overall packaging makes it possible to integrate the high-voltage MPE axle sets into existing installation spaces of previous roll stabilization systems. In addition, the new MPE has been optimized with regard to NVH behavior, which is particularly relevant for use in ICE-independent vehicles.

Flexible modular structure

The machine is specifically designed as a modular system, which can be optimally adapted to the various standard vehicle electrical system voltages by varying the twelve stator windings. This made it possible to achieve the main objective of covering the nominal voltages of 400 and 800 volts.

Building on the development knowledge gained and with the aim of realizing a cost-optimized modular structure, RAPA Automotive is currently working on further developing the high-voltage unit for future mobility solutions in order to set new benchmarks.

Smart component for innovative chassis

As a core component of the innovative Porsche Active Ride chassis, the performance of the advanced, electrohydraulic MPE was experienced for the first time in the Porsche Panamera of the third model generation in the E-Hybrid models. The high-voltage-capable solution is also used in the Taycan model series.
